I'm a Blogger ~ and More About Me!

My name is Barb Garvey and I am brand new to blogging! Technology and I don't always get along ~ we have a sort of love/hate relationship.  So this is a new adventure for me!

A little about me...I was born and raised my whole life in Brookfield, IL.  I have 3 older brothers and an older sister.  As teenagers, my sister and I each worked at a local family restaurant in Brookfield ~ where I would meet my future husband.

Garvey Family vacation in Michigan ~ enjoying a sunset boat ride!
I have been married to my high school sweetheart, Mike, for 20 years.  We have 3 amazing boys ~ Jake (15), Luke (12), and Joey (9). Our boys are very much into sports, especially baseball, basketball, and soccer.  Much of our summer was spent on the baseball field ~ between the three of them, they played on 6 baseball teams this season.  I love watching them play and as hard as it is scheduling-wise, I never want to miss their games.  Other than sports, we love our family time.  Our annual trip to Michigan is always one of our highlights.  We also love to go bike riding and explore around Chicago.  Our family time is precious to all of us!

A sign that hangs in my classroom!

From the time I was in kindergarten myself, I always dreamed of being a teacher and  have just started my 21st year of teaching!  I started my teaching career in a Catholic school in Chicago teaching 2nd grade.  After teaching there for three years, I made the move to River Forest.  I started in River Forest at Lincoln School teaching 2nd grade.  When my oldest son, Jake, was 1 year old, I had an opportunity to do a job share in 2nd grade.  It was definitely a highlight in my career!   When Luke was born, I made the move to Kindergarten and found a true love!  Nine years ago, I switched from Lincoln School to Willard School and continue to teach Kindergarten in my new home.  My dream of teaching has come true and I love everyday that I spend with my little ones.  I hope to have the same impact and instill the same love of learning that my own kindergarten teacher had on me.
